Folder Permissions in IIS5 - with FrontPage and SharePoint Team
Services. Setting up an Administrators Folder.
So your getting pretty good at FrontPage...You have IIS installed w/SharePoint
and FrontPage. You want to create a folder in your web to store all your
content management and admin pages. You could add code to all your pages to
password protect them...but that's a lot of work! It would be much easier to
store all your admin pages in on password protected folder.
I'm not going to get into the details of how to set permissions for every
type of computer configuration that's way beyond the scope of this article.
If you would like more detailed information go here: Microsoft TechNet
YOU WILL NEED ADMINISTRATOR RIGHTS AND A ADMINISTRATOR PASSWORD.
PLEASE read this article in full before attempting this. Try it on a
test web site first!
Create the folder in FrontPage you want to make private.
For this demo I called mine "Makeprivate".
Now open >Computer management in administrative tools.
Note: If you don't already have Administrative tools on your start menu
right click on an empty spot on your task bar and select >Properties
>Choose Start Menu >Customize > Display Administrative Tools.
>Expand Services and Applications, then > Internet Information
Services > then >web sites then >Your website (Default Web Site is the
default name) > keep expanding until you get to the folder you want to
make private.
>Right Click the folder and select >All Task >Permissions Wizard.
Click >Next Select > New security setting from a template >Next
Select >Secure Web Site >Next
Replace all directory
and file permissions [recommended].
The Next window gives you what the permissions will be set to.
Finish.
Note: Your password will be any administrator log in, you can
create more by adding users. If you are already logged on you will
get no password prompt. Try it from a different computer.
